@robertwgehl I didn't get any in my home feed during the mute but I see two toots in the local timeline.

@robertwgehl I don't know how we federate, so any clues would be good to know about

@abaron you have three timelines to choose from. Home, which are the people you follow. Local, which are all of the people on this instance. Federated, which would be other Masto instances that our instance is federated with. We aren't federated yet, so you'll only see our stuff there at the moment. I'm actually not sure how to implement federation, so we're looking into it.

discourse.joinmastodon.org/ is the discussion board for Mastodon software stuff. Tech-heavy but may be useful for some queries.

it is possible to download an archive of your toots and media in ActivityPub format.

@robertwgehl Yes, let's plan to try to federate our instances. I can't see an obvious way to do it, so this will be a good chance to figure it out.

@robertwgehl yep. posts need to be set for "public" to show up in the local and federated timelines.

mastodon has a hashtag feature that lets you choose them for your profile while suggesting previously used hashtags. Tag your toots with when you're sharing any discoveries or observations!

@robertwgehl that seems to be the case. For some reason, some toots in my home timeline aren't showing in the local timeline. Let me know if you have any insights.

@abaron welcome to thanks for adding some hashtags! . In fact, masto lets you feature hashtags on your profile as part of your identity. try it out!

@wisem Not bad for being in Toronto. M42 even shows a bit of its glow.

This is an instance of Mastodon at the University of Alberta. We are using this instance mainly for testing, but we welcome those who want to learn more about open source social media.
